4th Semester Overview
Welcome to the 4th Semester! This is a pivotal term where you begin exploring the core pillars of modern pharmacy: Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology. You will learn how drugs are designed, how they interact with the human body, and study the natural origins of medicine through Pharmacognosy.
Key Topics to Focus On:
Chemistry of amines, amino acids, proteins, and carbohydrates from a structural perspective.
Introduction to drug design, SAR (Structure-Activity Relationship), and CNS active agents.
Focus on rheology, deformation of solids, and the kinetics of drug stability and degradation.
General principles, pharmacokinetics, and drugs acting on the Peripheral and Central Nervous Systems.
Classification and quality control of crude drugs and study of primary natural metabolites.
