Pan 40 Tablet contains Pantoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the amount of acid your stomach makes. It is used for acid reflux (GERD), heartburn, peptic ulcers and other acid-related conditions, and to protect the stomach during long-term painkiller (NSAID) treatment.

Lasting acid control: one morning dose of Pan 40 Tablet suppresses acid production for around 24 hours, relieving heartburn and regurgitation, allowing ulcers and an inflamed food pipe to heal, and preventing them from returning while treatment continues.
Side effects of Pan 40 Tablet
Common side effects include headache, diarrhoea, flatulence, stomach pain and nausea; they are usually mild.
- Long-term use (beyond a few months) can lower magnesium and vitamin B12 levels and may slightly increase the risk of bone fracture and gut infections — use the lowest dose for the shortest time that controls symptoms.
- See a doctor promptly for persistent watery diarrhoea, muscle cramps or an irregular heartbeat during prolonged use.
How to use Pan 40 Tablet
- Take it 30 to 60 minutes before a meal, usually before breakfast.
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush, chew or split it (it has a protective coating).
- Take it for the full prescribed duration even if symptoms improve within days.
How Pan 40 Tablet works
Pan 40 Tablet irreversibly blocks the proton pumps (H+/K+-ATPase) in the acid-producing cells of the stomach lining — the final step of acid secretion. Less acid means heartburn settles and damaged tissue in the stomach and food pipe can heal.
What if you miss or exceed a dose?
If you miss a dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, before a meal. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual. Do not double the dose.
In case of overdose
Pan 40 Tablet is well tolerated and single accidental extra doses are rarely harmful, but contact a doctor or poison centre if a large amount has been taken.
Safety advice
No direct interaction, but alcohol increases stomach acid and worsens reflux symptoms.
Use in pregnancy only when clearly needed and advised by a doctor.

Interactions with other medicines
- Medicines that need stomach acid to absorb (ketoconazole, itraconazole, iron salts, some HIV medicines): absorption may be reduced.
- Methotrexate (high dose): levels may rise; the combination needs medical supervision.
- Warfarin: INR may change; monitoring is advised.
